In 2010, The Huntington Rural Cemetery cleared and opened a new section for grave sites. The new area, Section 9, is located on the south side of the cemetery on top of the hill between Oakwood Road and New York Avenue.

With the addition of Section 9, Huntington Rural Cemetery has over 2500 grave sites from which families can choose for their loved ones.

In 2011, The Huntington Rural Cemetery Board of Trustees agreed to add its first columbarium which will provide an above ground option for cremains. The columbarium will have 72 niches and will be located near the highest point in the cemetery. Single and double niches will be available. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
